Biomass slag recovery: test board ALBIOM-AG mix « serious natural and slag

ALBIOMA

Project presentation

Under the programmeALBIOM-H®, a test board of typeALBIOM-AGwas carried out on the site of thenew careerTERALTA in Pierrefonds (La Réunion) in the third quarter 2025.

This project is part of an innovation and circular economy approach aimed atvalue by-products from thebiomass combustion in development projects, earth and road infrastructure

The experiment involved a mixture combining:

  • a natural serious 0/80 mm;
  • slag from combustion ofbiomass 0/10 mm.

The main objectivewas to confirmthe mechanical performance and time behaviour of this alternative material under real-world construction conditions.

Objectives of the experiment

The objectives of the test plan were:

  • (d) assess the operational feasibility of ALBIOM-AG material;
  • validate the conditions for implementation on site;
  • measure the evolution of lift over time;
  • confirm laboratory assumptions;
  • contribute to the development of local solutions for valuing industrial co-products.

Implementation methodology

️ Making the mixture

The ALBIOM-AG blend was developed directly on the site of this new career.

Particular attention has been paid to the water condition of the materials in order to achieve the laboratory-defined compaction optimum.

  • Optimal target water content: 15.5% ± 10%
  • Water content measured during mixing: 15.4%

The mixture was made with the bucket with water adjustment by water supply.

◾️ Performance of the test board

The test board was carried out on an area in embankment in the continuity of the rocking bridge of the quarry, which is characterized by maximum stress and aggressiveness

Main features:

  • Length: about 22 meters
  • Width: about 4 meters
  • Implementation in 2 layers
  • Compact thickness: 20 cm per layer
  • Compaction: 7 passes at 2.5 km/h

    Technical results

    The J+22 tests show a significant improvement in the mechanical performance of the material.

    • average increase in lift:+54 % ;
    • Final ranking of the platform:PF3 ;
    • lift values between120 and 200 MPa ;
    • very good traffic behaviour;
    • low surface porosity;
    • low rejection rate.

    The results obtained confirm the assumptions made during the laboratory tests and demonstrate the relevance of ALBIOM-AG material for earth-moving and form layer applications.

    Innovation & circular economy

    The ALBIOM‐H® program contributes to several strategic issues:

    • reduction of landfillcombustion by-products;
    • development of local resources ;
    • Limiting extractionnatural materials;
    • development of low carbon solutionsfor infrastructure;
    • strengthening circular economy approachesThe Meeting.

    This experiment is an important step towards integrating alternative materials into territorial infrastructure projects.

    Outlook

    In view of the observed performance, the ALBIOM-AG material has great potential for:road platforms,technical embankments,the shape layers andindustrial and logistical developments.

    Les retours d’expérience issus de cette opération permettront de compléter le dossier « Technique , Environnemental et Sanitaire » instruit dans le respect du guide GAMAT 2025 (CEREMA), et ouvre la perspective d’une version améliorée, ALBIOM-AG+, incluant une proportion faible de cendres de biomasse, reconnues pour leur propriétés pouzzolaniques.

    Strasbourg – Rocade Sud Grand Contourment Ouest - REMEX

    Between 2017 and 2020, REMEX provided alternative materials for several phases of the major infrastructure projects in Strasbourg, including the South Rocade, the West Grand Contour and various related works.

    Le Eleven Residence - CHRYSO

    The Le Eleven residence in Chartres is a set of 12 housing units built in compliance with the E2C1 approach, label created to contribute to the fight against climate change for new construction, short circuits in favor of the circular economy with a maintenance of the balance of costs.

    Gagny Quarry Filling Building (93) - VEOLIA

    For 9 months, the old gypsum quarries of the city of Gagny were completed(93). The grouping of the three companies responsible for the work, chose to trust Veolia for the supply of 300,000 tons of B2 sandstone.

    Green Cross Building - VEOLIA

    With eight roundabouts and six kilometres of shoulder straps, the Green Cross interchange connects the A16 motorway to the Francilienne – RN104. It is one of the most important road nodes in the Val-d的Oise. Open to traffic at the end of 2019, who imagines riding on roads made, in part, of recycled materials? Because, under the carriageway, 70,000 tons of grave New·O make up the shape layer. This recycled granulate comes from the recovery of chewer material, a solid residue of energy recovery of non-hazardous waste.

    ArcelorMittal Refractory Waste Management - MIRECO

    In partnership with RHI Magnesita, the contract holder, Mireco is present at the ArcelorMittal site in Dunkirk to manage the 25,000 tonnes of refractory waste from the steelworks. Their mission is to ensure optimum management of these wastes, with a focus on their recovery and minimising their environmental impact.

    Materials flow optimization at DEW - MIRECO
