Why join AFOCO?

By joining our association, you will integrate a community of committed professionals who work actively to promote the development of alternative industrial materials. Become a pioneer of change by joining AFOCO.

Understanding Afoco

In 1995, the French Association of Industrial Co-Product Operators, AFOCO was founded by four operators engaged for decades in the recovery and processing of industrial by-products.

Their objective: to put the by-products back into the reusable products circuit, to replace, of equal quality, traditional materials usually taken from the natural environment.

In 1998, AFOCO was responsible for the recovery and processing of around 80% of iron and steel dairy in France, as well as other co-products.

The first European conference on dairy in Marseille was organised by AFOCO. This event had a great impact in Europe but also in the World with about 150 participants from Europe, the United States, Australia, South Africa, Canada... It was on this occasion that a European body – EUROSLAG – was set up, bringing together associations in other European countries and of which AFOCO is a founding and influential member.

Today, AFOCO has the largest member national companies whose fields of activity include steel and metallurgy co-products, mining shale, thermal power plant ash, incineration chewers, waste glass furnaces (used refractory), foundry sands, and new materials such as anthropogenic aggregates.

The Association continues its efforts to promote alternative materials at both national and European level by providing information on the development of techniques and on significant achievements in this field.

Raising awareness among French administrations and companies on the use of industrial co-products as alternative materials is the challenge facing AFOCO.

Z

Building together the future of sustainable construction

Become a key player in the ecological transition in construction, enhance the use of alternative materials with contractors, contractors and contractors, creating a strong network of industrialists sharing the same vision for the sustainable and sustainable development of the sector.

Z

Promoting alternative industrial materials

AFOCO promotes all alternative materials from the processing of industrial mineral co-products. Our common objective is to enhance these alternative materials in industry and construction, replacing traditional materials that are often taken from the natural environment.

Z

Supporting innovation at the heart of technical advances

AFOCO facilitates the integration of regulations and standardization guides related to alternative materials.
AFOCO values a constant watch on technical developments in the profession, keeping you informed of the latest developments in this evolving field.

Z

Integrating a network of opportunities and synergies

Our association offers you a privileged overview of the professional sector, allowing you to benefit from synergies between the various components of the industry. You will have the opportunity to build strong links with other stakeholders in the sector during our meetings, such as the working groups and the many events we organise.

Z

Representing the profession with the public authorities

By joining AFOCO, you are actively contributing to improving the representativeness of the alternative materials industry. Together, we can make our voice heard in decision-making bodies and further promote the use of alternative materials in construction projects. The more we are, the more significant our impact will be in building a responsible and sustainable future in the construction industry.

Z

Developing a Borderless Network

Aware of the gradual disappearance of trade and normative boundaries between countries, AFOCO is developing its network of partnerships in Europe with Euroslag and North America with NSA.

AFOCO actively participates in the standardisation committees at French and European level. Its quality work responds to the needs of international issues and are assessed by European and national bodies.
