AFOCO 2025 Technical Day – Steel dairy in France: state of play and prospects

Nov 26, 2025 | Event, AFOCO Technical Day

At the AFOCO 2025 Technical Day, Jérémie DOMAS, Delegate General of CTPL, presented a comprehensive overview of the steel dairy sector in France, highlighting their current uses, their development potential and the challenges that shape this strategic resource for the civil engineering and construction sectors.

A vital industrial resource for the circular economy

Steel dairy now occupies a central place in industrial co-product recovery practices. Their availability, their technical-economic performance and their environmental interest make them particularly relevant materials in the current context of decarbonisation and sobriety of resources.

The intervention of the CTPL recalled the major role played by these materials in infrastructure, development and construction products, while stressing the need to raise awareness of their benefits and scope.

A National Overview and Strong Trends

Through a clear and structured analysis, Jérémie Domas presented:

  • the distribution of dairy products in France,
  • existing processing and recovery chains,
  • uses in the various sectors of civil engineering,
  • current innovations and prospects for the development of the sector.

This synthesis highlights a positive dynamic brought about by both industrialists, territories and the regulatory framework, which increasingly recognizes the interest of alternative materials in sustainable construction.

Future prospects reinforced by environmental expectations

With the acceleration of greenhouse gas emission reduction requirements, steel dairy is a robust and immediately mobilizable solution to reduce the carbon footprint of projects.

The improvements identified during the presentation: optimisation of uses, strengthening of quality, development of new markets, normative support, are all levers to consolidate their place in the years to come.
