AFOCO 2025 Technical Day – News on alternative materials development guides in civil engineering and focus on planning uses

Nov 27, 2025 | Event, AFOCO Technical Day

The AFOCO 2025 Technical Day made it possible to take a step point on the development of national guides for the development of alternative materials in linear transport infrastructure and in planning.

Patrick VAILLANT, Project Manager in Circular Economy and Materials at Cerema and Corinne HULOT, Head of Studies and Research within the Health Impact and Exposure Unit at Ineris – National Institute of the Industrial Environment and Risks presented:

  • the revision of historical guides (MIND, dairy, ashes, BTP...),
  • progressive harmonisation of methodologies,
  • the structuring of use in planning around typologies A1 to A5,
  • environmental limit values,
  • and the principles of the EQRS-based health approach.

In particular, LENERIS detailed the construction of health limit concentrations, the reasoned selection of substances and the assessment of different routes of exposure, in line with the national framework.

Useful lighting in a changing context

In the face of rapidly changing methodological frameworks, the day highlighted the importance of having legible, technically sound tools adapted to the diversity of deposits and uses.

The typologies A1 to A5, the coherence sought with the GAMA-T and the future publication of the application guides are structural elements for the actors in the sector.

AFOCO, a long-standing commitment to these issues

As an association dedicated to the promotion of high-performance industrial alternative materials, AFOCO continues its role as a technical contribution and accompaniment to stakeholders, in order to promote controlled and fully integrated exploitation in the circular economy.
