As already announced, the 9th EUROPEAN SLAG CONFERENCE will take place in METZ, FRANCE, from October 11th to 13th, 2017, organised by EUROSLAG with the local support of AFOCO, the French Industrial Co-products Operators Association.

EUROSLAG is the European association of all main organizations and companies concerned with all aspects of manufacturing and utilization of ferrous slags products. The association deals with promotion of slag as a product, enables exchange of information and research and facilitates the interaction with governing bodies. Each year, about 45 million tons of ferrous slag (iron and steel slag) is generated in Europe.

AFOCO is a federation of companies involved in collecting the slags and other by-products in the steel plants with the aim to transform them into useful and reliable new products. AFOCO brings together 18 companies which manage about 90% of all the French slag production, including some of the best research teams in this field.




The purpose of the 9th European Slag is the exchange of knowledge related to technical application, environmental and legal purposes for all kinds of iron and steel slags.




The Conference - Oct. 11th and 13th

Presentation, update and discussion on all subjects related to the production, treatment and marketing of ferrous slags, divided in 4 half-day sessions :

-        State of legislation, rules and standards in Europe and in the world

-        Proceeding from « by-products » to recognised « products »

-        Characteristics of the slags : updated studies, research, ?

-        Innovations : new techniques, new markets.


Technical visits ? Oct. 13th

Optional visits will be proposed in selected slag producing and handling facilities in France and in nearby Germany, as well as in famous Research Centres.


Gala dinner ? Oct. 11th

It will be the place to network in a friendly atmosphere.





The conference language is English.




Should be interested all persons involved in processing, using and marketing slags, be they from private companies, public Authorities, technical schools, research institutes, universities, environment safety organisations.




Metz is a prestigious historic city, located in the heart of an attractive European triangle including Germany (Saarland), Luxembourg and Eastern France. The Conference takes place inside the Arsenal building, a XVIIth century military complex recently relined and converted in a modern well equipped Conference Center situated in the center of the city, at walking range of the central railway station and of the most convenient hotels.

Gala Dinner will be on October 11th 2017 in the nearby ?Saint-Pierre-aux-Nonnains Church?, one of the oldest Roman Christian churches in Europe, rehabilitated in a place dedicated for special events.

The conference fee is 480 ? which covers conferences, lunches, coffee breaks, documentation.

Early registration, before August 1st 2017 will be invoiced at the special rate of 430 ?.

Presenting authors from selected papers and chairmen/chairwomen of each section will receive free inscription (not including travel and living expenses, nor gala dinner).

Special rates have been negociated with several good standing hotels. The list and registration details will be circulated shortly.
